Document Assembly - What It Isn't

Document assembly can largely be (and do) what you want it to be. That being said, document assembly is not:

• plug & play software off the shelf that will make you money in minutes (or hours, and perhaps not even days or weeks)
• strictly for basic forms and formfill documents
• strictly for "off the shelf" precedent packages
• a language that can be mastered in two days (no matter WHAT platform you chose)
• hideously expensive with small returns on investment (unless you under utilize its capabilities)
• "just documents" that require no planning, forethought or structure
• reliant on workflow, case management, practice management or document management to generate profit
• uncustomisable or unscaleable

In short, its not something that you simply install like Outlook, plug in a couple of details and away it goes. It is more like buying Lego blocks or a Meccano set. What you will get from it is limited purely by your imagination and abilities as your end result will be a reflection on how you put it all together.  In fact, it is most like MS Word - you install it and you have a blank canvas; it doesn't actually do anything yet.  But once installed, you have a powerful piece of software with which to build things. In the case of Word, documents. In the case of document assembly, systems that produce documents.
