Introduction

PDF Print E-mail

This section will outline some specifications (specs) of document assembly systems that I and/or Basha Systems have previously built for clients. Most of these systems are designed to produce finalized documents that do not require post assembly editing. Additionally, most of these systems are designed with "master answer" lists (not the auto-generated type), from which all proofreading is done. Whilst it will appear as if I am showboating (unavoidable I suppose) the real intent is to perhaps get a response from you, the reader.

What I'm hoping for here is a thought like, "hey! we do a lot of property matters...I can see how that approach would really cut down our production times" or perhaps "I can pick all my favourite liquidators from a single list? That would be nice".  All in all, I'm simply trying to put forward some system specs that I KNOW work (have worked, have benefitted the client and are still working), in the hopes of getting readers to identify with the kind of systems I design and build.

Debt Recovery

This is one of my favourites, as it is perfectly suited to document assembly. Yes, perfectly suited. Debt Recovery in the law firm could be loosely defined as basic, undefended litigation, where the majority of matters remain undefended. The focus of a debt recovery system is procedure - sequential procedure and processing of large volumes if simple documents which can be split into 3 major areas:

  • All court documents relating to undefended proceedings: Claim, Statement of Claim, Judgement.
  • Post judgement/execution proceedings: warrants generally.
  • All letters, memos and correspondence associated with the above.

Simple Lending Documentation

PDF Print E-mail

In the USA, it is quite common for the lawyer to draft the documents that form a loan, not the bank.  This HotDocs system video details a lending system to handle the lending requirements of 50 American states.   The client needed something fast and efficient. Because their document needs were simple, the project came in at approximately USD3,000.00 with some change to spare. It reduced a manual drafting and proofing time of 5 - 10 hours to literally 10 minutes - in finalized form, hot off the document assembly press.

One of the older systems designed with Basha Systems on the GhostFill platform has a few more requirements than the above system - click to view the document assembly video - you'll see more logic requirements, more dialogs and more moving parts.

Criminal Charges - With a Twist

Our client was the Nassau District Attorney's Office. For those of you who haven't seen Law & Order on TV, the DA's office is the government body that prosecutes pursuant to their criminal justice system. Take the video tour.  For many years, the DA's office had produced their documents using an IBM Mainframe solution which was unwieldy, expensive and worst of all: very difficult to maintain. The scope of the project was to allow new statutes, attorneys and staff members to be added quickly and easily while providing finalized documents without post-assembly editing.
