Time to 'Program' - its Clerical Now

PDF Print E-mail

The hard part is over. In fact, the hard part was probably over quite some time ago...but lets get moving on.

From here, it is simply a case of programming each template in your system. If you were to pick up document #1 and start coding, this would be the bulk (or the only) work you have to do. Under this planning approach I have outlined, this is clerical. You are opening each template, and simply filling in the variables, which are clearly marked from your mark-up process.

As you fill in the blanks in each template, you test it to make sure you got the code right. If you have done your planning and design steps correctly, you should not have to re-work code, revisit old component files to see what you did before, reprogram the same stuff over and over or even copy & paste code snippets. It should truly be a simple fill in the blanks process.

The first time you utilize this approach, do NOT expect it to be faster than whatever approach you are used to. It takes time and practice to become proficient with anything. This is no exception - it will take time to get fully comfortable with it. It will take time to fully visualize every variable you are going to need ahead of time.

The Blueprint is Not Finished With Yet!

As you move through your individual templates to finally program them, you will most likely discover that you need variables which you have not listed. As you create each new variable, ensure you include them in a relevant row on your spreadsheet. If you plan on using your Master of Masters as more than a convenient way to create a component file, you should also update that template as well.

In short, everything you do in your system should be annotated into your tracking blueprint. If you do not update your tracking document, it will have served the purpose of pre-planning your system, and creating a component file quickly, but the usefulness will end there. By continually updating it, you keep your blueprint current, so that at any stage, it remains a definitive and total reference document.
